Everton exploring late transfer for Tottenham’s Dele Alli on Lampard’s recommendation

Everton have been linked with a late move for Tottenham midfielder, Dele Alli.

As per the Telegraph, Everton are exploring a permanent deal for Dele Alli. New Everton boss Frank Lampard is said to have recommended the Tottenham midfielder to his new club.

But as Everton have already signed Donny van de Beek and Anwar El Ghazi on loan, they cannot make another domestic loan this season.

So, to get around this, one option being explored is whether or not Everton could sign Alli for a relatively small initial fee, with the promise of future payments that could become bigger if certain targets are achieved.

What the initial fee could be, though, is not mentioned.

Can Dele Alli save his career under Frank Lampard?

Dele Alli has had a quite spectacular fall from grace over the last few years. The 25-year-old was once one of the brightest English talents in football and looked set for a superb career.

However, over the last two or so years, Alli’s form has fallen off a cliff. It started at the back end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and, barring a brief upturn right as Jose Mourinho took over, continued all the way through the Portuguese’s stint as well.

Granted, Mourinho did often bench Alli so he didn’t get much of a chance to prove himself.

But at the back end of last season when Mourinho was gone and this term under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, Alli has once again not shown anywhere near his best.

Will he be able to reignite his career on Merseyside under Frank Lampard, a man he has previously been compared to? If not, a case could be made that Alli’s time at the top of the game in England is over.
