Everton dealt blow in hunt for forward Luis Diaz, deal now completely off

Everton chase reinforcements

Everton are on the hunt for a suitable backup to their current striker options Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. Both have started the season in red-hot form, with Calvert-Lewin netting three goals in the opening three games of the season.

Similarly, they are looking for further backup in the wide areas, with Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend already joining the club this summer, but space for additions still remaining.

For the striking option, Salomon Rondon is the preferred choice, with Everton hoping to complete a deal that would see the forward reunite with Rafa Benitez after their stint at Newcastle.

Luis Diaz deal off

However, they are looking likely to be left disappointed in the wide-area reinforcement.

Porto’s Luis Diaz was thought to be their primary target in this position, with the 24-year-old Wideman capable of playing on either flank or even through the middle if needed.

Diaz impressed at the Copa America with Colombia too, scoring 4 times in 5 games for his country, although he could not take them to the final.

Unfortunately, it appears as though any potential deal to take Diaz to Everton has now collapsed, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that there was “no agreement and no way to find a solution in the next hours”

It remains to be seen whether or not Everton have time to identify another target, or whether they will be left high and dry come the deadline.
