Arsenal need a striker

One of Arsenal’s main priorities for the January window looks to be signing a striker, which makes sense given the current options on their books.

Alexandre Lacazette has been utilised as Arsenal’s main no.9 under Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman, though, is out of contract this summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another experienced option at centre-forward, but he generally performs best on the left-wing. In addition, his future has been called into question following a recent disciplinary breach.

This leaves the inexperienced trio of Eddie Nketiah (out of contract in the summer), Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun – the latter of which is now on loan at Middlesbrough.

One of the names most heavily linked with the north London outfit to help provide some fresh legs up top has been Dusan Vlahovic, who is currently dominating the Serie A with Fiorentina.

Reports emerging this week, though, claim that the Serbian will demand £300,000-a-week, as well as set the Gunners back a hefty transfer fee.

Now, on Tuesday, are reporting that Arsenal are making a continued push to sign Vlahovic in the January transfer window

However, if the Gunners are unable to sign Vlahovic this month, they will turn their attentions to other targets. The report from FL name some of these as Lille forward Jonathan David, Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It is added that Edu, Arsenal’s technical director, met with the agent of David at the end of December, with the striker said to be highly admired by certain figures within London Colney.

The 21-year-old has scored 12 in 19 Ligue 1 outings for Lille this term. Could he be a cheaper alternative to Vlahovic?
