Edinson Cavani expected to miss Man United’s season-opener, chances of Raphael Varane being involved vs Leeds revealed
Man United vs Leeds
The 2021/22 Premier League campaign is now just a few days away.
The season kicks off on Friday, August 13th, when Arsenal and Brentford face off.
There are then several clashes on Saturday, with the first of the day no doubt set to be a hugely entertaining affair.
Manchester United and Leeds are set to face off at Old Trafford in the day’s early kick-off. It will be the first time these two bitter rivals have clashed in front of fans since Leeds’ recent promotion to the English top-flight.
Cavani likely to miss Leeds clash
Ahead of the game, some insight into how Manchester United’s squad will look has been provided.
Firstly, Marcus Rashford has just had surgery on Friday, so he is of course not going to be involved over the weekend.
Thank you for all the well wishes. I had my surgery on Friday morning and everything went very well. A little sore but other than that I’m feeling good. Hope you’re all having a great day! ♥️ pic.twitter.com/cUZQpS0wIi

Elsewhere, The Athletic have reported Edinson Cavani is expected to miss the start of United’s season after an extended break following his participation in the Copa America.
It is added that Cavani is yet to return to England after he was granted extended leave this summer, something which was believed to have been discussed during his new contract negotiations.
The Athletic also gave an update on Raphael Varane, reporting that the Frenchman has an outside chance of making the bench vs Leeds this weekend:
Edinson Cavani granted extra time at home in Uruguay to see family members after nearly two years apart from some.
Part of proposal from #MUFC when convincing him to stay.
Means his return is delayed – expected to miss Leeds – but human touch important.https://t.co/5O2v8NEeSG
