Dune: Part Two has started production, released November 17, 2023
Dune: Part Two has begun filming, the film’s official Twitter account has confirmed. Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is back on board to direct and adapt the second half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 epic sci-fi novel of the same name, partnered with Greig Fraser as cinematographer. The sequel brought in plenty of big-name new stars, including Léa Seydoux and Christopher Walken, before Warner Bros. only delays the release date from October 2023 to November 2023.
The official Dune Twitter account simply posted a photo of the shingle, which reveals the sequel’s tagline: “Long Live the Fighters!” This goes along with the “crusade” visions that Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) had in the first movie, where we see him clad in white gold armor and slaying his enemies in battle. Dune: Part Two was officially greenlit on October 26 last year, just four days after Part One was released worldwide.
With a screenplay co-written by Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts (Prométhée, strange doctor), the film is primarily set on the dystopian desert planet of Arrakis, where we will witness the impending war between the Atreides family and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård), who will stop at nothing to see the downfall of their bloodline. A few romantic examples are also to be expected as Arrakis native Chani (Zendaya) takes center stage as Paul’s love interest and teaches him the applications of the spice aka “mixture.”
