Samsung delivers initial shipment of 24,000 5G radios, and first RAN-supported sites virtualized by Samsung go live on DISH Wireless Open RAN cloud-based 5G network

Samsung Electronics and DISH Network Corporation (NYSE: DISH) have launched Samsung-supported sites for the DISH Wireless 5G network, marking the beginning of Samsung’s role in the carrier’s nationwide rollout. With Samsung providing an initial shipment of 24,000 Open RAN-enabled radios1 and 5G virtualized RAN (vRAN) software solutions, the companies are accelerating the deployment of the DISH network across the United States, which is poised to provide reliable and fast nationwide coverage to DISH Wireless network users.

Since announcement of their multi-year agreement in May 2022, DISH Wireless and Samsung have advanced their collaboration moving from field testing to successfully activating the first live Samsung sites within the DISH Wireless 5G network. For this deployment, Samsung has provided its comprehensive portfolio of 5G solutions, including its Virtualized Distributed Unit (vDU), Virtualized Central Processing Unit (vCU), and Open RAN-enabled 5G radios, which support DISH spectrum bands. Samsung has also built new Open RAN compatible dual-band and tri-band radios specific to this deployment.
