Details revealed as Chelsea strike deal with Inter Milan to sign Romelu Lukaku

Word emerging from England on Saturday afternoon suggests that Chelsea have agreed a deal with Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea linked with Lukaku

Chelsea’s links to Lukaku this summer emerged in early June, when it was claimed that Roman Abramovich was personally pushing for the deal.

The chatter surrounding a potential return to Stamford Bridge for the Belgian had since subsided in the weeks following this news.

Lukaku himself even came out and confirmed he would be staying with the Italian champions back in June:

“Yes, I am staying. I feel good at Inter.”

However, reports began to emerge earlier this week claiming that Chelsea had not yet given up hope of signing the forward this summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Inter turned down an offer from Chelsea which was believed to be €100m plus Marcos Alonso:

Then, on Tuesday evening, another update from Romano asserted that Chelsea were preparing another bid for the Belgian:

And now, on Saturday, it appears the two clubs have come to terms on a fee for Lukaku.

David Ornstein, a very reliable source when it comes to Premier League transfers, has confirmed that on Saturday, Chelsea agreed a deal worth €115m to re-sign Lukaku. Said fee, which is around £97.5m, is a club record for the Blues.

In terms of Lukaku’s contract, Ornstein states that the forward is expected to sign a five-year deal worth around £195,000-a-week after tax.

It is added that Chelsea were determined to get the switch completed by Sunday night to ensure Lukaku is ready to start the Premier League season. The Londoners’ first outing of 2021/22 takes place on Saturday, August 14th vs Crystal Palace.
