“Destroyed Everyone”: Daniil Medvedev Reveals Novak Djokovic’s Major Boost For French Open 2021 Triumph
Daniil Medvedev is the number one seed at the ATP Mallorca event, and is preparing for the Wimbledon Championships. The Russian is of the opinion that, Novak Djokovic played in Belgrade a week before the French Open, and destroyed everyone. He believes that playing a tournament before a Grand Slam event, will help in preparing well for the event. The World No2 will be aiming for a title in Mallorca, in order to be ready for Wimbledon.
Daniil Medvedev is going to play against Corentin Moutet of France, in the second round in Mallorca. The Russian received a bye in the first round, courtesy of his seeding. Daniil will be keen on performing well in Mallorca, after losing out in the first round in the Halle Open.
Daniil Medvedev: It is a really strong field here
Daniil has been given the number one seed in Mallorca, which involves many other big names. Along with Dominic Thiem, Roberto Bautista and other big players, it will be a tough road for the Russian. The World No2 will also be looking to win his first title on grass court, consequently boosting his confidence for the Wimbledon Championship.
After losing his first round match in the Halle Open to Jan Lennard-Struff, Daniil practiced his shots and trained harder for Mallorca. “I lost my first round against a great player, so it [was] not easy, [and] that is why I decided to come to Mallorca to try and get some more matches. It is a really strong field here,” said Daniil.
The Russian is inspired by Novak Djokovic, and his preparation level for any tournament. “Everyone said to Novak Djokovic, ‘Why are you going to Belgrade [the week before Roland Garros]?’ But he gained a lot of confidence there. I don’t think he played his best tennis there, but then he came and destroyed everyone at Roland Garros, so I think sometimes it can be good just to prepare ahead of a Grand Slam and win some matches,” said in a media interview.
