Despite impressive pre-season, Facundo Pellistri’s Man United exit confirmed

Premier League giants Manchester United have, on Thursday, confirmed Facundo Pellistri’s latest loan departure.

Red Devils spell

Uruguayan starlet Pellistri was of course part of a last-gasp deadline day influx at Old Trafford last October.

After catching the eye courtesy of a series of scintillating performances in his home country with Penarol, the 19-year-old joined all of Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and fellow youngster Amad Diallo in taking his talents to the red half of Manchester.

Whilst the rest of the quartet were subsequently handed the chance to impress over the course of the recently-completed campaign, though, Pellistri was considered too raw to yet make his senior United bow.

In turn, it came as little surprise when the wide-man was farmed out on loan during the winter window, linking up with La Liga outfit Alaves.

And, all told, Pellistri’s stint in Spain proved a successful one, with the teenage talent having showcased his unquestionable abilities en route to a none-too-shabby 12 league appearances.

2nd Reds exit

Following the expiration of his deal with Alaves, though, Pellistri of course since returned to Manchester, before being handed the chance to impress by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in pre-season.

And this proved an opportunity which the youngster went on to grasp with both hands, notching a goal and two assists across appearances against Derby County, QPR and Brentford.

As outlined above, though, such efforts evidently did not prove sufficient enough evidence for Solskjaer to be convinced of Pellistri’s credentials as a potential contributor at Old Trafford over the season ahead.

In turn, the South American has today been farmed out on a 2nd successive loan spell.

His destination? A familiar one, in the form of Alaves.

As confirmed in statements across both clubs’ social media platforms, Pellistri has departed Manchester for the Mendizorrotza, for the length of the 2021/22 campaign:
