DC’s superhero movies will follow a 10-year plan similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav confirmed during a results webcast that the franchise will be reset to come up with a cohesive plan for future DC films. The company has announced a “reset” for the DC Extended Universe, with a dedicated team laying out long-term plans focused on quality over quantity. News comes in the wake of Leslie Grace-led WBD scrap bat girl film, which was in its final stages of post-production.

“You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, these are known brands all over the world,” Zaslav said during the webcast. “We did a reset. We restructured the company. We’re going to focus where there’s going to be a team with a 10-year plan focused solely on DC. Going forward, DC will try to emulate the Marvel Cinematic Universe playbook, similar to the structure established by Alan Horn, Bob Iger, and Kevin Feige at Disney. In this context, Warner Bros. Discovery will focus on quality and won’t release any movies “until they’re ready”.

The studio has confirmed that the cancellation of Wonder Twins, bat girl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt was a difficult part of this strategy, but it didn’t fit their vision of maximizing financial returns. Reports indicate that bat girl was tested for drugs, with the public calling him “unsalvageable”. The film, originally scheduled for release on HBO Max, will no longer see the light of day, neither in theaters nor on the streaming platform. Some reports also claim that Warner Bros. Discovery chose to waive the film as a tax deduction.

Movies that revealed their trailers at San Diego Comic-Con last month – black adam and Shazam! Fury of the gods – and the flash are marked safe, and that’s something the company is really excited about. “We are very excited about them. We have seen them. We think they are great and we think we can make them even better,” added Zaslav. It should also be noted that bat girl was never mentioned during the San Diego event.

As with other projects in development such as the project directed by John Cena Peacemaker season 2, filmmaker James Gunn assured on Twitter that it is safe from interference from the studio. An HBO Max exclusive, the DC series is now heading to Prime Video in India on August 14. Even the sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, is considered a quality product in the WBD offices.

From now on, the studio will only focus on theatrical releases, now that COVID-19 is no longer a major obstacle, although some films will be released with shorter windows and different marketing campaigns. This references the sweeping move by the old WarnerMedia regime to put all 2021 Warner movies on HBO Max the same day as theatrical screening. The studio also plans to merge HBO Max with Discovery+ to create an all-new product – which will debut in summer 2023 in the US and mid-2024 in Asia-Pacific. Discovery+ is available in India, HBO Max is not.

After the conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, DC Comics handed over the reins to Zack Snyder, who launched his own expansive universe with Man of Steel. But 2016’s sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received mixed reactions and studio executives lost faith in it afterward. Justice League.

DC has been in a constant state of flux ever since – at one point Michael Keaton was set to become the Nick Fury-like figure in DCEU, but those plans ended with the cancellation of bat girl. Keaton reportedly filmed a scene for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but Ben Affleck appears to be replacing him there.
