David Moyes reveals the one signing he wish he’d made this summer

David Moyes reveals the one signing he wish he’d made this summer

    West Ham’s flying start

West Ham have had a fantastic start to the 2021-22 season, winning two of their opening three games, before drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace.

Their good forms sees them sit 2nd in the Premier League table heading into the international break, by virtue of the impressive 10 goals that they have scored, joint best with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

In addition, Michail Antonio has been named the Premier League player of the month for August, a deserved reward for his return of four goals and three assists in the opening three matches, which saw him become West Ham’s record Premier League scorer in the process.

But with a long season, and Europa League commitments too, do they have the squad to achieve on all fronts?

    Moyes missing a backup striker

David Moyes faced the media ahead of the Hammers’ fixture against Southampton on Saturday, and was asked just that. Although the Scot noted his happiness with the window in general, he did point to one position in particular that he would have wanted to improve.

Moyes zeroed in on a back up striker, revealing:

“We would have liked to have brought in someone who could directly replace Mich during the window. [Someone] Who could possibly help him out but we just could not find anyone,” the manager said.

“We have to try and find other ways of doing it and bringing other people who in we think can score goals in a different way.

“Keeping Mich fit is really important for us, we will not play him in all of the games but will try and use him at the right times.”

The reliance on Antonio could see the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Andriy Yarmolenko trialled as a lone striker in smaller games during the season, but could they come to rue missing out on a striker?
