David Moyes provides concerning post-Chelsea injury update on pair of West Ham defenders


West Ham United boss David Moyes has, on Saturday afternoon, provided an altogether concerning update on the wellbeing of two key members of his backline.

Masuaku wins it late

The Irons were of course back in action a short time ago.

After securing just a solitary point from an available nine over the course of the last couple of weeks, Moyes and co. welcomed Premier League table-topping Chelsea to the London Stadium, in search of a bounce-back performance, and result.

And, to their credit, when all was said and done, this is precisely what West Ham managed.

A pulsating 90 minutes of end-to-end action ultimately culminated in the hosts emerging on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline.

After twice falling behind on the day, the superb Jarrod Bowen brought West Ham level early in the 2nd-half, before Arthur Masuaku’s mishit cross from the left inside the closing five minutes caught Edouard Mendy completely off guard, securing all three points in the process.

‘Just hoping…’

As alluded to above, however, an otherwise stellar day’s work for West Ham on Saturday was soured to at least some degree by a pair of blows on the personnel front.

Both Ben Johnson and Kurt Zouma were forced out of proceedings prematurely, in altogether untimely fashion ahead of the hectic festive period.

In turn, it came as little surprise when David Moyes was asked for an update on the wellbeing of the two stoppers post-match.

And the news did not exactly prove encouraging, with the Irons boss having confirmed that Johnson appears to have picked up a hamstring problem, whilst it remains unclear how long Zouma is likely to be sidelined for…
