Daniel Ricciardo Reckons He’s ‘Earned a Few More Schnitzel’ After Securing P2 in FP2 at Styrian GP
Daniel Ricciardo found respite at the French Grand after a string of poor results with McLaren this season. And it looks like the Australian has carried the form into Austria as well; Ricciardo managed to bring his car home in P2 in FP2, only behind the championship leader, Max Verstappen.
Following the successful practice session, the Honey Badger opened up about the type of cuisine he had been enjoying since he arrived at Spielberg – Schnitzel. What’s more, he reckoned that his astonishing Friday performance has probably earned him more Schnitzels for dinner.
What did Daniel Ricciardo say?
During the post-practice interview, Ricciardo revealed the heavy meal he had on Thursday night, also opined that he deserves more on Friday night after putting up a decent show on the track.
“I had like 3 Schnitzels last night, but all were like baby Schnitzels. But, I think I’ve probably earned a few more tonight. It was like one serve. More like baby ones. I’m kinda lying because they could have just been one big one cut in three,” the McLaren driver said.
Ricciardo unleashed his true pace during the race at Le Castellet last weekend, as he secured an impressive P6 despite starting from P10. Everything, including the initial getaway, pit-stop strategy, came together for Ricciardo, as he managed to end his rather unpleasant run since the start of 2021.

This diet seems to be working: Ricciardo
Although Ricciardo denied advising such diets to aspiring young talents, he reckoned that such heavy meals do help him gain several tenths on the track.
“Yeah. Austria’s like a Schnitzel themed and then we go to Monza. It’s always Pizza and I’m not saying it’s the diet I would condone to young and aspiring athletes out there. But for me, it seems to be working and I get a lot of joy in having these types of cuisines,” he said.
“If that gives me an extra tenth in the car just through sheer pleasure, then, so be it.”
Overall, having enjoyed such a positive start to the Styrian Grand Prix weekend, McLaren will be looking to continue the trajectory until the end of the race.
Hence, will Ricciardo and his teammate, Lando Norris, yet again leave the weekend with plenty of points in their hands?
