Dana White Terms Most of the Fight Movies as ‘Horrible’

UFC President Dana White is a busy man. The 51-year-old maverick is at the helm of the biggest MMA production house in the world.

Yet, he still manages to find some time to watch some movies, like fight movies, that on most occasions, don’t really amuse him.

In a recent interview, White shared his experience of dealing with these movies and also gave his opinion on why he ends up getting irritated.

“That’s hilarious. They brought warrior (movie) to me,” White said. “And they gave me a viewing in a movie theater about myself which is me and I don’t know who else was there like a hand full of people.

“And I hated it. Hated the movie, hated everything about it. I think the part of the problem is I am too close to the fight game.”

White then recalled an incident during the making of the Kingdom. “I saw few episodes of the kingdom and I loved it. I thought it was really well done (and) I was totally into it and I actually watched the whole season.”

White was so impressed by Kingdom that he thought about getting its rights. “Not only did I love kingdom, I actually was trying to get rights to it to put it on UFC fight maps.”

White then explained his favorite movie. “I’m a big rocky 3 guy. I love rocky 3. But all these other fight movies, are horrible,” he concluded.

Dana White confirms Fight Island is not going anywhere

White has confirmed that Fight Island will return this summer with a bigger and better presentation than before. The UFC had released this concept last year in order to stage fights in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island because of restrictions in the US.

“I’m flying to Abu Dhabi this summer and working on finishing building out the infrastructure of Fight Island,”  the UFC Boss told in the interview.

“Not only is Fight Island not going away, (but) Fight Island is also going to be even bigger. ‘Fight Island is going to be so badass that it’s about to be this destination in Abu Dhabi for fight fans.”

He added, “This summer I’m going to announce it and walk everyone through what’s going on there. I’m super excited for that.”

The UFC had returned to the US in January and had also staged the UFC 257. With restrictions no longer a barrier, the promotion has successfully staged events with crowd capacities.
