Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate snubs Manchester United man in Ballon D’or claims

Ballon D’or Shortlist revealed

Last week, the top 30 candidates for the Ballon D’or were revealed, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2020-21 campaign proving enough to get him added to the list.

During his last campaign, the Portuguese forward netted 29 times in Serie A for the Turin side, but could not help them challenge for the title, with the Old Lady only stumbling to a 4th place finish.

However, Ronaldo’s goals were enough to see him pick up the Golden Boot for the league, ahead of now fellow Premier League striker Romelu Lukaku and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, and he has continued his good form for Manchester United, netting 5 times already since his move back to Old Trafford, as well as finishing as top scorer at Euro 2020.

Patrice Evra backs others for Ballon D’or

However, his stellar season by most standards (except the ones set by him and Lionel Messi over the past decade) has been overlooked by former teammate Patrice Evra. The defender played alongside Ronaldo for three seasons at Manchester United, before the Portuguese sensation moved to Real Madrid in a then-record move.

However, tribal loyalty has not swayed Evra on who he believes deserves the Ballon D’or, with the former Manchester United left-back naming two current Chelsea players as the only worthy recipients.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Evra said:

“In my opinion this Ballon D’or is for Kante of Jorginho, he deserves it! I don’t understand why people say: “He’s just a midfielder”, he won everything, participating in a lot of these wins.

He continued:

“In my opinion, it’s an injustice. I’m sick of giving it to Messi, what did he win this year? Ok, the Copa America, but with Barcelona what did he do?

Is Evra right, or should the award be heading elsewhere this year?
