Cristiano Ronaldo misses out as Man United ring changes for Chelsea clash
Manchester United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has been dropped to the bench for the club’s meeting with Chelsea, it has been confirmed.
The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course set to play out shortly.
The matchup in question will see the aforementioned United make the trip to Stamford Bridge, for a highly-anticipated showdown with table-topping Chelsea.
The Red Devils, expected to appoint German mastermind Ralf Rangnick as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement any day now, head into proceedings aware that they simply can’t afford to slip to another defeat on Sunday.
This comes with a dismal spell of recent form on the domestic front having seen United slip to the depths of mid-table, a full six points off the top-4 pace.
CR7 misses out
As alluded to above, though, if the giants of Manchester have genuine hopes of returning to winning ways up against Thomas Tuchel’s rampant table-toppers this evening, then, to start out at least, they will need to make do without the services of the club’s star man.
This comes with Michael Carrick having taken the shock decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench for the Stamford Bridge clash.
Elsewhere, Fred, labelled as a doubt to feature in the build-up to the capital fixture, is included from the off, starting alongside both Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic at the heart of the visitors’ midfield.
Luke Shaw, though, misses out altogether, meaning Alex Telles is handed a rare starting berth at left-back:
