Cristiano Ronaldo increasingly likely to start against Newcastle as Cavani left out of matchday squad

Ronaldo rejoins Manchester United

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know by now that Manchester United have signed Cristiano Ronaldo once more, 12 years after his last stint at Old Trafford.

His signing has already proved a huge success for the Manchester United brand, with “Ronaldo 7” shirt sales reaching 188 million pounds, which paid for the transfer fee alone.

Can Ronaldo, so often the hero for his club, bring success to Manchester after four long years without a trophy?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was coy on the possibility of the Portuguese international starting against Newcastle tomorrow, but promised he would feature in some form, saying:

“He will definitely be on the pitch at some point that’s for sure”

Chances of starting increase

Those hoping to see Ronaldo from the off tomorrow afternoon against Newcastle have been dealt a huge boost this evening as the travelling squad was confirmed. Not only did CR7 (unsurprisingly) make the cut, there was a surprise omission in the striking department.

This came in the form of Edinson Cavani, who did not join the team this evening, in turn increasing the chances of Ronaldo being handed a second debut from the start tomorrow.

It is not a foregone conclusion, with both Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial travelling with the squad, as well as young forward Anthony Elanga. However, the omission of star striker Cavani has certainly done his chances no harm.

Elsewhere, Donny Van de Beek could also feature, as both Scott McTominay and Fred are not included in the squad.

Ronaldo, however, will of course take centre stage.
