Court postpones Kinnear murder case to find safer court

Court postpones Kinnear murder case to find safer courtCourt has postponed the case against former rugby player Zane Kilian in order to find a safer court for his bail application.

The former rugby player was arrested in connection with top police detective Charl Kinnear’s murder.

He appeared in court on Monday on the charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal interception of communications.

He was accused of tracking Kinnear’s cellphone.

Over 13 Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members were seen guarding the courtroom in Bishop Lavis on Monday.

Photos were not allowed to be taken in court, with members of the AGU physically making sure every device was switched off.

The State prosecutor said the case would be postponed as a result of safety fears regarding the area.

His bail application will be heard in another safer court.

However, Kilian’s advocate Eckhard Rösemann was against the change saying it was against Kilian’s constitutional rights to be kept in custody for so long without a bail application.

The case was postponed to Friday.

People outside the court were heard shouting “Shoot him! murder him!”, as he was transported out of the court.
