Court postpones ex-ANC MP Vincent Smith’s corruption case

Court postpones ex-ANC MP Vincent Smith’s corruption caseCourt has postponed the fraud and corruption case against former African National Congress (ANC) MP, Vincent Smith.

Smith’s case was postponed to 3 December by the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

State prosecutors explained to the court that it was difficult for them to get access to their offices because of the pandemic.

They said they were yet to share critical documents with Smith’s lawyers.

Smith is currently facing charges of fraud and corruption.

He allegedly received a total of R800,000 from Bosasa through various transactions.

The State said as a Member of Parliament, Smith was to tell that he had received benefits from Bosasa in his declaration of financial interests but he failed to do so and his actions made the Parliament suffer actual or potential prejudice.

The court also heard part of the former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi case who was also implicated in it.

His lawyers argued that he should be granted bail after the State opposed his application.
