Seven people implicated in the R255 million Free State asbestos project appeared in court on Friday and were granted bail.

They appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.

The accused in the corruption case were made up of top government officials and business owners as well as the director of Blackhead company.

Blackhead company was given the R255-million contract.

After it was paid, it did not fulfil it’s own part of the role.

It made R200-million to manage the project which was subcontracted.

The director of Blackhead, Edwin Sodi was granted R500,000 bail.

The court also ordered all the accused to surrender their passports.

The NPA on Friday also indicated that one of the suspect could get additional charges attempting to bribe an official while in police custody.
