Concerning Arsenal transfer update emerges on deadline day

A concerning transfer update surrounding Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal has emerged on Monday.

Arsenal would be linked with a number of players over the month of January, with the Gunners seemingly eager to strengthen in two main spots.

These were central midfield and up front. In midfield, Arsenal clearly needed some fresh legs after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was loaned out, Mohamed Elneny entered the final six months of his contract and Granit Xhaka continued to prove himself an unreliable option.

And, for the most part, Arsenal were linked heavily with Juventus’ Arthur.

Up front, meanwhile, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract in June and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out in the cold and now potentially heading to Barcelona, a striker signing this month made a lot of sense.

However, now, as per football.london quoting David Ornstein, Arsenal are not currently close to landing a midfielder or striker: “With a day left in the window, Arsenal are not currently close to landing the midfielder or striker they hoped to add.

“Their intention was to see if they could expedite deals for summer targets this month, but thus far those efforts have not come to fruition.”

How will Arsenal cope without new faces?

So, it now looks very likely that Arsenal will not be bringing in a single new face this month.

With Thomas Partey now back from AFCON, it seems as though their midfield crisis has, if they can keep Partey and Xhaka fit, largely been averted for the time being.

But their lack of goals up front still remains a concern, with their main striker, Lacazette, on just three league goals for the season so far – only two of which have come from open play.
