Newcastle vs Manchester City

Manchester City return to action on Sunday the 19th of December at 2:15 pm UK time.

The Sky Blues are the current league leaders and are expected to continue their fine run in gameweek 18.

Man City are the second-highest scoring side in the PL so far this term and also have the best defence – conceding just nine in 17 outings so far.

As a result, it is widely expected that Pep Guardiola’s side, who put seven past Leeds earlier this week, will demolish Newcastle.

Eddie Howe was brought in to try and stave off relegation. However, barring getting the Magpies their first win of the season against a poor Burnley side, Howe has so far been unable to improve much.

Newcastle are 19th in the league and ship goals for fun, so far conceding 37 in 17, which is the worst record in the PL right now.

Pep Guardiola returns inconclusive Covid-19 test

Ahead of what looks set to be a fairly easy win, Pep Guardiola was set to speak to the press on Friday.

However, that will no longer be taking place. The reason for this is that, as reported by Sky Sports’ Ben Ransom:

Pep Guardiola has returned an inconclusive COVID test and has cancelled his scheduled press conference

It is added that Guardiola is awaiting the results of a PCR test (suggesting he did a lateral flow originally).

What does this mean for Manchester City vs Newcastle? Well, Ransom adds that, as things stand, the game is still expected to go ahead:
