Concern for Lampard as Newcastle in last-gasp bid to hijack Everton’s midfielder swoop

Newcastle United have positioned themselves back in the race for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, it has been confirmed.

The name of Lilywhites outcast Alli has of course found itself front and centre in the headlines in the buildup to the transfer deadline.

This comes amid the efforts of the transfer team in north London to shift the English international from Antonio Conte’s squad, amid another underwhelming individual campaign to date.

Premier League rivals Everton, in turn, stepped forward earlier today, with the widespread understanding having been that Alli was on the verge of linking up with newly-appointed boss Frank Lampard’s Toffees, as part of a somewhat bizarre free transfer:

As alluded to above, though, amid the dying embers of the window, another of the English top-flight’s clubs have reemerged as competitors for the Tottenham star.

The outfit in question? Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

As confirmed by transfer insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Magpies have made a ‘dramatic’ last-gasp attempt to steal Alli from under the noses of their Everton counterparts.

This comes owing to Manchester United’s failure to sanction a departure for Jesse Lingard.

It now remains to be seen whether Alli himself is enticed by the prospect of a move to St. James’ Park.

As fresh concern surrounds one of the club’s prospective deadline day moves, though, those of an Everton persuasion can at least take solace in the fact that their side have pushed one late addition to new boss Lampard’s squad over the line.

As confirmed in a series of posts across their social media platforms a short time ago, the Toffees have landed Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the campaign:
