Communications authority in Lesotho threatens to withdraw Vodacom’s license

Communications authority in Lesotho threatens to withdraw Vodacom’s licenseThe Lesotho Communications Authority issued a notice that it plans to revoke the operating license of mobile giant Vodacom in the country.

The authority stated that Vodacom refused to pay a R40 million fine that had its deadline on Wednesday.

The regulator said Vodacom was charged this fine after it was caught making use of an external auditor who is the sister-in-law of the board chairperson Matjato Moteane.

The mobile operator, Vodacom was also fined R140 million for failing to abide with the regulator’s directives to appoint another auditor.

In February this year, the mobile operator was also threatened to get its license revoked over a license fee dispute.

The authorities wanted R8 million but Vodacom was against it.

It’s local shareholders Sekhametsi was also accused of acquiring its stake irregularly 20 years ago.
