Starting from July next year, the effect of administrative adjudication of road traffic offences will come to play.

This translates that any driver who go against road rules will face penalty on a new demerit system.

An organisation named Dear South Africa believes the new Aarto draft regulations are exactly the same with the existing regulations.

MD Rob Hutchinson talked from a different perspective about the draft regulations, saying some serious issues were developed while a demerit system in theory.

Once a law has been promulgated into law by the president, the minister is then obliged to draft regulations which explain how that law must be applied, how the fines and associated penalties are brought about and how the appeal process is carried out.”

The transport department said the new law will help cut down the number of deaths in the country.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the bill into law and after it appears in the Government Gazette, it will be in effect.
