Chicago Bears Rookie QB Justin Fields Focused on Being the Best Version of Himself

The Chicago Bears were in the hunt for a quarterback this offseason. With the combination of Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles failing to deliver the goods last season, the side was reportedly eyeing a trade for Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson.

When that failed to materialize, the side signed free agent veteran Andy Dalton instead. This though was not their last move in the quarterback market.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Bears traded up to snag Ohio State’s Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick, signaling their intention of moulding their franchise QB for the future.

While Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy has maintained that Fields will not be their starter right away, the rookie QB has not given up hope. Believing in the Bears’ plan, he is now looking to make the most of his time learning the offense and getting used to life in the NFL.

Talking to WGN9, Fields said he has full faith in the plan the Bears management has in store for him. Not one to make elaborate demands, the QB reiterated that his main focus is to help his team win.

“If I don’t believe in it then it’s not going to work out. So my job is strictly to get better, to be the best quarterback I can be, and help my team win,” Fields said.

Talking about his transition to the big league, Fields said he’s been in regular touch with coach Nagy. As training camp rolls in next month, the rookie QB talked about how his days will look like in the weeks to come.

“Just work out, study film, meet with coach Nagy individually on Zoom. Most likely just talk about the playbook,” said Fields. “Right now, I have a base idea of what plays we have.

So just diving into that more. Focusing on the smaller details because when you have a big base of it, you can really start detailing each and every specific thing in a play. Really get to know it like the back of your hand.”

In Fields, the Bears have a rookie with a very high ceiling. And if he can reach that potential, then they’ll finally find themselves the franchise QB they so desperately have been searching for years.
