Chelsea’s Everton plans thrown into disarray as COVID hits Thomas Tuchel’s side

On Wednesday, Watford’s clash with Burnley was called off just 2 and a half hours before kick-off due to a covid outbreak in the Watford camp.

And there could yet be more games crossed out of the calender.

Chelsea latest side to be affected

Now, it is the turn of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to be hit by COVID-19, with the Blues having reported three positive cases, in addition to Matteo Kovacic, who tested positive last week.

As per Nizaar Kinsella, of Goal.com:

“Three more prominent players in west London have now been forced into self-isolation, leaving Tuchel short on options.”

“Tuchel was ready to include two of those players in his thoughts for a home date with Everton, but has seen his pre-match planning thrown into disarray.”

Worse yet, it could continue to spread, as:

“All of those set to sit out upcoming outings have been in contact with the rest of the Chelsea squad, with a full training session completed on Wednesday.”

With Ben Chilwell out injured, and N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both only returning to training on Tuesday, therefore not ready to start against Everton, it could be an experimental side that faces the Toffees on Thursday evening.

It has further ramifications too, with the trio of positives set to miss games against Wolverhampton and the COVID effected Brentford too, and being only touch and go for the boxing day clash against Aston Villa.

How long can the Premier League continue to push on amidst continuously rising cases?
