Monchi and co. are said to have demanded that Kounde’s release clause – worth a sum in the region of €75 – 80 million, be coughed up, or a sale would not be forthcoming.

And Chelsea, as a result, were left with little choice but to abandon their efforts to lure the Frenchman to the English capital.

Blues still keen

As outlined above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, then Kounde finally sealing a move to the European champions following the turn of the year cannot be ruled out.

This comes with a fresh insight into the plans of Blues director Marina Granovskaia and co. having been forthcoming on Thursday afternoon.

The info comes courtesy of the reliable James Olley of ESPN, who reports that Chelsea are indeed willing to reignite their pursuit upon the opening of the January window.

The Pensioners, however, will only sanction a transfer under one condition: That Sevilla agree to drop their asking price for Kounde, to a fee in the region of €50 million.
