Chelsea flatten Newcastle United
Chelsea compounded Newcastle United’s early-season misery with a comfortable 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors were made to work hard for their opening goal, but once Reece James netted just after the hour, the floodgates began to open in Graeme Jones’ first game in caretaker charge of the Magpies.
James added a second, before Jorginho converted the penalty spot to ensure that Chelsea grabbed three goals to go with a much-deserved three points on Tyneside, and leave Newcastle looking for their first win of the season still.

The result, and Liverpool and Manchester City’s failure to win, means that Chelsea find themselves out in front of the early title challengers, three points clear of Jurgen Klopps side and five points ahead of the Citizens, as they look to add the Premier League trophy to their Champions League success under Thomas Tuchel.
Quartet absent from training ahead of Malmo clash
Now, attentions turn to Europe, and a potentially tricky trip to Swedish side Malmo. Chelsea defeated them comfortably on home turf, but lost Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to injury in the process.
And ahead of the trip to Sweden, there is more bad news for the Blues. A quartet of first-teamers, including the aformentioned Werner and Lukaku, were absent from the final training session in London. The other two? Midfield pair Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount, both of whom were absent for the weekend victory too.
