Chelsea offer massive clue that they are closing in on Romelu Lukaku
Chelsea chase a striker
Chelsea’s hunt for forward firepower has been well documented this summer. The club, despite winning the Champions League and finishing fourth in the Premier League, failed to see any of their squad hit double figures for league goals, with Jorginho’s seven good enough for top scorer.
While Erling Haaland was seemingly the first choice, this has been abandoned after failing to make an acceptable offer for the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Borussia Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl to Bild: “Will Haaland stay this summer? Yes. In the discussions with Raiola for Malen, I did not have the feeling we have to meet again about Haaland. We don’t want to give him up”. #BVB #CFC 🟡⚫️ @kilian_ga @westsven

As such, Chelsea have turned their attentions to a former Blues player in the form of Romelu Lukaku, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that a new bid for the Inter Milan forward will be forthcoming this week.
Chelsea are preparing a new bid to sign Romelu Lukaku. Proposal expected around €120/130m after opening bid turned down by Inter [€100m + Marcos Alonso involved in the deal]. 🔵 #CFC
Chelsea are also offering Lukaku a long term contract for €12m net per season as salary.

This bid, according to a report from The Telegraph, would be enough to convince the Italian club to part ways with their main man, with Inter’s well known financial issues meaning that they must sell their assets.

Broja loan suggests a move close
In a key indication that a deal for Lukaku to return to Stamford Bridge is in fact close has been revealed by Simon Johnson, the Chelsea correspondent for The Athletic. Johnson reports that highly-rated forward Armando Broja is close to leaving the club on loan, with Udinese the destination reported.

This, added to the reported eagerness to part ways with Tammy Abraham, would leave Chelsea light at the top of the pitch, making a move for a new forward seemingly inevitable.
