Chelsea midfielder Jorginho snubs Lionel Messi as he names the two players he would vote for in the Ballon D’or
Jorginho a favourite for the Ballon D’or
Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is among the favourites in the Ballon D’or race.
While it is hard to say from a goals and assists perspective that he has been particularly impressive (although his 7 penalties for Chelsea last season did make him the club’s top goalscorer), he has been a key component of a pair of very successful sides.
Winning the Champions League with Chelsea, he then went on to form the fulcrum of an Italy side that beat England in the final of Euro 2020 in a penalty shoot-out, despite having his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford.
He is one of five Chelsea nominees for the award, but is certainly the man with the most silverware credentials to back up his claim. However, who would he vote for?

Now, speaking to the Italian press, Jorginho has opened up on who he thinks deserves the award.
Perhaps unexpectedly given his position, he opted for two midfielders, in the form of teammate N’Golo Kante and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. He reserved special praise for the Belgian, saying:
“I would vote in Ballon D’Or for Kante or De Bruyne. Talking to other defenders from big teams, De Bruyne requires much more attention than players that win every year the prize”
In choosing this pair, Jorginho has overlooked perhaps the most favoured trio of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski, as well as the phenomenal Karim Benzema.
Do you agree with his choices?
