Chelsea injury news latest: Ziyech does not need surgery, N’Golo Kante has ‘some issues’
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Chelsea kicked off their 2021/22 season earlier this week with a UEFA Super Cup clash against Villareal.
The Blues were taken to extra time, but thanks to the heroics of Kepa Arrizabalaga, came out on top in the penalty shootout.
Thomas Tuchel and co. must now turn their attentions to the domestic front, kicking off their Premier League campaign on Saturday, August 14th.
The Londoners’ first clash of the season will see them face off with Crystal Palace.
Palace have undergone something of a makeover in recent months, appointing Patrick Viera following Roy Hodgson’s departure.
The Eagles have also made a number of exciting signings including former Chelsea star Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen and Michael Olise.
Thomas Tuchel provides Kante & Ziyech updates
Ahead of the Crystal Palace tie, Thomas Tuchel held his latest pre-match press conference on Friday.
When speaking to the media, the German tactician was drawn on a number of topics, including Haim Ziyech.
The Moroccan was subbed off in the aforementioned Super Cup and was then pictured wearing a sling.
However, Tuchel confirmed on Friday that the winger does not need surgery and could be back within two weeks:
“Hakim will miss the game for sure because of his injury. The decision is made that it will be treated conservatively. We don’t need surgery which is very good news and we hope it continues like this. He can be back in two weeks, we hope.”
On a slightly less positive note, N’Golo Kante is said to have ‘some issues’ following the Super Cup game. What these issues are was not divulged, but it does seem to suggest the midfielder is a doubt for Saturday.
