Chelsea handed Romelu Lukaku boost ahead of Villa/Could Belgian replace Jorginho as penalty-taker?

The name of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has taken centre stage across the media on Sunday evening.

Hazard amongst the goals

Belgian international Lukaku was back in action on the international stage a short time ago.

This came with the Red Devils having welcomed the Czech Republic to Brussels, for the nation’s latest 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Roberto Martinez’s men headed into proceedings sitting pretty atop the Group E table, having racked up ten points from an available twelve, notching seventeen goals along the way.

And, when all was said and done on Sunday, Belgium’s fine spell of form only continued.

Another dominant display ultimately culminated in a 3-0 result, owing to strikes from Eden Hazard, Alexis Saelemaekers and the aforementioned Lukaku.

Big Rom latest

And, as outlined above, on the back of the action coming to a close at the King Baudouin Stadium, it is the name of that man Lukaku which has since taken centre stage online.

This comes for a whole host of reasons.

First off, the hitman this evening reached a remarkable milestone, lining out for his country for the 100th time, despite being just 28 years of age.

Not only that, but he marked the occasion with a goal, Lukaku’s 67th on the international stage:

And supporters of Chelsea, whom the gifted goalscorer of course secured a return to last month, will not only be delighted to hear of Lukaku’s latest efforts in front of goal.

In a further boost for the Blues, it has been confirmed that ‘Big Rom’ picked up a booking tonight, securing a suspension in the process.

This means that he will be unavailable to feature versus Belarus on Wednesday night, with the hitman therefore likely to be released early from international duty, ahead of Chelsea’s return to action versus Aston Villa this weekend.

Last up on the Lukaku front on Sunday, meanwhile, come calls for the ex-Inter Milan man to be installed as the new first-choice penalty taker at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ current no.1 from twelve yards comes in the form of Jorginho, but the deep-lying midfielder tonight missed a crucial spot-kick in Italy’s meeting with Switzerland, his 2nd in three.

Lukaku, on the other hand, has long maintained a stellar record from the spot, with calls, in turn, having begun to spread across social media for the 28-year-old to be upgraded be handed further responsibility by Thomas Tuchel:
