Chelsea handed boost as defender “prepared” to open talks over new contract
Chelsea’s defensive prowess
Chelsea have had a brilliant defence so far this campaign, conceding just 4 goals in the Premier League so far this campaign, which leaves them sitting atop the table.

Beyond this season, however, it is looking far less rosy.
At present, all of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are set to depart on free transfers as their contracts in west London come to an end.
It would represent a massive blow to the club, with those four representing all of Chelsea’s most experienced defenders.
However, the Blues have at least been dealt a small boost on that front.
Silva set to stay
Now, as per trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, one Chelsea defender is ready to commit his future to the club.
The player in question?
Thiago Silva.
The 37 year old has been in brilliant form for Chelsea, making 14 appearances for the Blues this season in a defence that has conceded just 1 goal in that time. And now, he is set to be rewarded.
As per Romano:
“Thiago Silva’s understood to be prepared and open to talk with Chelsea over new contract until June 2023. He loves the club, fans, atmosphere in the dressing room and he’s in great relationship with Tuchel.”

Will Chelsea’s other defenders follow suit, or will Thiago Silva be in a minority at Stamford Bridge next season?
