Chelsea dealt potential blow as Pulisic limps off against Honduras

USA impress but Pulisic limps off

The US have had a torrid international break. Beginning by drawing 0-0 to minnows El Salvador, they followed it up with another disappointing draw, this time 1-1, to Canada.

This insult was then compounded when they lost Sergino Dest to injury and were forced to send home Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie for breaking covid-19 protocol.

Heading into the final round of World Cup qualifiers of this international break, therefore, it was imperative that the Stars and Stripes came away with three points, away to Honduras.

And in the end, while the performance was tentative, the result was conclusive, the US emerging on the right side of a 4-1 scoreline thanks to four second-half strikes.

However, the jovial nature of the evening was soured by another injury to star wide-man Christian Pulisic, who has struggled with fitness since his big-money move to Chelsea in 2019.

US Coach reveals details

Speaking after the game, US head coach Greg Berhalter spoke on the injury, saying:

“Christian has a slight ankle injury. We’re going to get more info on it when he goes back to London, the severity of it”

Chelsea have a tough run of fixtures ahead of them, beginning with a game against Aston Villa on Saturday, their first of 7 games in 22 days before the next international break.

Thomas Tuchel, and the Blues faithful, will be hoping that the injury is not too serious, as he will be surely needed for the upcoming ties.
