Chelsea dealt massive blow as key man forced off injured against Watford

Chelsea struggle against Watford

Despite being top of the Premier League, Chelsea struggled to show their title credentials in a first half against Watford heavily delayed by an incident in the stands.

The Blues were lucky not to be 2-0 down ahead of the suspension of play, and consistently turned the ball over, handing Watford the initiative. Some even dubbed it the worst half under Tuchel.

Although they took the lead courtesy of Mason Mount, they were quickly pegged back by the Hornets, with Emmanuel Dennis levelling the scoring.

And it was Watford that ended the half in the ascendency, sparking Tuchel into action as he thrust Thiago Silva on for Saul Niguez, pushing Trevoh Chalobah into midfield.

But, he did not last long.

Chelsea suffer another injury concern

Just over ten minutes into the second half, Chelsea’s poor luck on the injury front continued to rear its ugly head.

Running back towards his own goal, Chalobah pulled up with what looked to be a hamstring strain, and which subsequently forced him out of action.

To demonstrate just how weak Chelsea are in midfield at present, it was Hakim Ziyech, not another central option, that replaced the youngster.

Chalobah has been a revelation so far this season, having made 8 Premier League appearances and netting twice in the process from centre-back.

Meanwhile, he could also fill in in central midfield, something that would have been welcome given Saul’s struggles thus far and the lengthy injury list Tuchel is having to deal with.

Sadly, Chalobah is now just another name on that list.
