Chelsea, Arsenal & more dealt major transfer blow

Chelsea, Arsenal & more dealt major transfer blow

Arsenal, Chelsea and more sides have been dealt a blow in their respective hunts of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku has caught the eye of many a top side this term, which is to be expected given how impressive he has been to date.

The 24-year-old is naturally a central attacking midfielder. However, he has played in a number of positions this term, including up front in a two.

His most prominent role, though, has come as an attacking midfielder in a front three. This has seen Nkunku score a staggering 30 goals and provide 20 assists in 46 games across all competitions this term.

Such impressive production is no doubt set to see Nkunku, who is under contract until 2024, command a mammoth transfer sum when RB Leipzig do eventually opt to sell him.

Nkunku not for sale

However, much to the disappointment of many top clubs, it does not look as though Leipzig will be parting with the Frenchman anytime soon.

This comes after comments from Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff. When speaking about Nkunku recently, Mintzlaff stated that Nkunku is their player and he will be their player again come next season, adding that the goal is to keep the current side together next term:

“I have said it before, and I will say it again here: Nkunku will be our player again next season. Our goal is to keep the team together for next season.”

Despite the Leipzig chief’s comments, however, it is hard to see Nkunku staying at the club too much longer.

In spite of their improvements over the last several years, Leipzig remain a selling club and, once one of the big sides come calling, it usually ends in a top player being sold – Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate and Timo Werner being just some of the latest examples.
