Chakda’ Xpress: Netflix Reveals Behind-the-Scenes of Anushka Sharma-Led Film
Chakda’ Xpress just got a behind-the-scenes trailer. At an event in Mumbai on Monday, Netflix unveiled a new look at the upcoming Anushka Sharma-directed sports biopic. The film dramatizes the story of former Indian cricket captain Jhulan Goswami, who played a pivotal role in bringing fame and recognition to women’s cricket. Prosit Roy (Paatal Lok) is directing the film from a script by Abhishek Banerjee (Tanlines), serving as a comeback film for Sharma after her long maternity hiatus.
The trailer for Chakda’ Xpress BTS doesn’t divulge much, other than a few random production clips and B-roll footage of Jhulan, played by Sharma, training on the pitch. It then cuts to director Roy describing the premise of Chada’ Xpress, detailing his journey from the small town of Chakdaha, West Bengal, to the 2017 World Cup final. There are some brief glimpses of Sharma with hair short, depicting Jhulan’s younger self – a kind of tomboy – mimicking bowling techniques in the free time she has at home.
“We try to capture the raw energy of Jhulan, and we try to be as honest with the story as possible,” he added. There is also a moment when the real Jhulan Goswami appears on set, guiding Sharma with character portrayal and techniques on the pitch. Apart from popularizing women’s cricket in India, Goswami also holds the world record for most wickets in an international career, which spanned nineteen years from 2002 to 2021.
Netflix had released a trailer for Chakda’ Xpress earlier this year which showed the dire situation the Indian women’s cricket team found itself in. The stadiums were empty, there were no personalized shirts and it highlighted the oversaturation of the male audience. fans in sports. “If cricket is a religion, why are men the only gods?” a tagline appeared at the end of the trailer.
“At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the world stage, it was very difficult for women to think about playing the sport,” Sharma previously said in a prepared statement. “This film is a dramatic account of several examples that have shaped her life and also women’s cricket.” Anushka produces Chakda’ Xpress with his brother Karnesh Ssharma through their production banner Clean Slate Filmz.
Currently, there is no release window for Netflix’s Chakda’ Xpress.
