Azpilicueta has fun with traveling supporters

Chelsea veteran defender César Azpilicueta took his opportunity to have a bit of fun with Leeds United traveling supporters at Stamford Bridge today after the Spanish international was subbed off with 15-minutes remaining in the second half.

Azpilicueta featured in the matchday XI for Thomas Tuchel’s Blues who looked to keep pace with both Manchester City and Liverpool today and got the nod ahead of Danish international Andreas Christensen alongside Thiago Silva and Antonio Rüdiger in the usual back-three deployment.

Once removed and replaced by the aforementioned Christensen, Azpilicueta entered into some extra-curricular activities near the away fans section at Stamford Bridge, sparring with Leeds United supporters as he made his way to the bench according to Football.London‘s chief Chelsea correspondent Sam Inkersole.

Chelsea earn a late win from the spot

Thankfully for Azpiliceuta, his blushes were spared by Italian international midfielder Jorginho after he netted home from 12-yards-out to give Chelsea a late 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge, keeping pace with their fellow title rivals after both City and Liverpool bagged a pair of 1-0 wins over Wolves and Aston Villa respectively.

The back-and-forth match at the Bridge proved entertaining after Marcelo Bielsa’s men came to play this afternoon, taking a 1-0 lead through key winger Raphinha who converted from the spot just before the half-hour mark. But goals on either side of the interval from Mason Mount and Jorginho put the Blues ahead, only for Joe Gelhardt to pull it back level with just seven minutes left.

But Jorginho answered the call once again from the spot in stoppage time after Antonio Rüdiger earned a penalty in the dying moments of the match in the English capital, which was more than enough for the Italian midfielder to bag his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

The result keeps Chelsea just behind both City and Liverpool in the sprint to the finish line, and comfortably ahead of both West Ham and Arsenal who sit nine and ten points behind the Blues.
