United gave their hopes of a Premier League title challenge a big boost with a 2-1 comeback win against their city rivals.

City looked to be closing the gap on league leaders Arsenal after substitute Jack Grealish headed in Kevin de Bruyne’s cross from the right on 60 minutes.

United then equalised in the 78th minute thanks to Bruno Fernandes despite the presence of Marcus Rashford in an offside position.

City players protested that Rashford had interfered with play ignored despite the flag going up.

Rashford then grabbed the winner in the 82nd minute when he swept in substitute Alejandro Garnacho’s cross to move United to within one point of City.

After the final whistle, social media was flooded with reactions to United’s equaliser and one of those who waded into the debate was Cech.

The former Czech international posited that allowing Fernandes’ goal to stand means people in charge of making football rules don’t even understand the game.

“The first United goal just proved the people who make the rules don’t understand the game,” Cech wrote on Twitter.

A win for Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby will see Arsenal go eight points clear of City.
