Call of Duty Warzone introduces a God Mode that makes cheaters’ bullets bounce at you

Games like Call of Duty are increasingly looking for ways to make it less fun for people to exploit their games, and the latest idea gives honest gamers a tip of their own.

Call of Duty Warzone’s new anti-cheat shield, Ricochet’s new anti-cheat software, bounces a cheater’s bullets at you, so you can get up close while they hilariously flap around, then destroy them yourself.

In a blog post announcing the feature, Activision said it only activates “when the server detects that a cheater is altering the game in real time”, and that there is “no possibility for the game to apply a damage shield randomly or by accident,” in case you were wondering.

“We will never interfere in shootings between law-abiding members of the community,” Activision added. So if you see this happening when you’re not cheating, well, you’ll probably have questions.

The company is also warning cheaters that it will begin banning them across the entire Call of Duty game franchise, not just game-by-game, and that the bans will extend to future Call of Duty games as well.

Cheating has increasingly become a bane of gaming over the past couple of years, leaving no popular game untouched, to the point that professional gamers have ended up dropping some titles and console gamers are rejecting cross-play with PC due to the prevalence of cheaters there.

Epic won’t update Fortnite to work on the Steam Deck for fear of cheaters as well.

Companies like Activision have responded with huge new anti-cheat initiatives, including their own original kernel-level PC drivers, but they’re also fighting cheaters with legal action, suing or threatening to sue their creators.
