Button Explains How Hamilton Was Not ‘Comfortable in His Own Skin’ During McLaren F1 Days

The 2009 world champion, Jenson Button believes we are experiencing ‘the best Lewis Hamilton’ we have ever witnessed. Moreover, Hamilton’s former teammate adds the 7-time world champion now speaks ‘from the heart’.

After winning his maiden World Championship with Brawn GP he moved to McLaren in 2010 to partner fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton creating what was dubbed as an all-British ‘super team’.

Lewis Hamilton currently sits at P2 in the Drivers’ Championship standings 12 points behind Max Verstappen. The Dutchman overtook the Briton with just two laps remaining after a clever pit stop strategy by Christian Horner and Co.

What did Jenson Button say about Lewis Hamilton?

“I think in the past, there have been moments where he’s wanted to say something, then you see him collect himself, and he’s like what should I actually say right now?

“And then he changes his answer, so you can see it, you can see his brain working,” said the 2009 World Champion, Jenson Button.

“But now I do just feel he’s confident in his skin and he is saying what he thinks, which is really good to see. And I think it’s the best Lewis Hamilton we’ve seen.”

Mercedes to look for a comeback at Styria

Silver Arrows will hope to hit back at Red Bull and Max Verstappen on Sunday as Formula One returns to Austria to host the back-to-back races at Red Bull Ring, just as it did in 2020. Silver Arrows haven’t capitalized in the past three races this season. Thus, they will head to Styria on the back foot.

The Milton Keynes-based team have extended their lead over Mercedes by 37 points. However, Silver Arrows will look for a comeback at Red Bull Ring where they have been dominant in recent years, winning six of their last eight races.

Red Bull would certainly look to build on their red hot form when they find their way back home this weekend.
