Burnley ‘make an offer’ for Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet

A report from England on Saturday claims that Burnley have made an offer for Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet

Maxwel Cornet’s Lyon stint

Lyon signed Maxwel Cornet in January of 2015 from fellow French outfit FC Metz.

The 24-year-old has since become an integral member of Lyon’s first-team squad.

All told, Cornet has featured 251 times for Lyon to date, scoring 51 goals and providing 29 assists along the way.

The Ivorian is also very versatile. He has spent the majority of his senior career being used as a right-winger.

However, he has also notched a high number of outings on the left-wing, and can play as a centre-forward if required.

More recent years, though, have seen Cornet often deployed as a left-back or left-wing-back.

Burnley eyeing Cornet

Now, it appears that Cornet, whose current Lyon deal runs until 2023, is the subject of interest from Burnley.

The Sun covered the Clarets’ interest in him earlier this month, suggesting Sean Dyche and co. could move for Cornet amid struggles to land Ademola Lookman.

And that does look to be what Burnley have done. The Athletic are reporting on Saturday that the Lancashire outfit have made an offer of around £13.5m and have permission to speak to Cornet.

It is added that discussions over personal terms will be held this weekend.
