Burnley given key update on star Maxwell Cornet

Burnley given key update on star Maxwell Cornet

Cornet could feature at the weekend

Relegation-threatened Burnley could be given a massive boost to the first-team set up after a key update was given regarding star forward Maxwell Cornet.

The update was mentioned by injury source Ben Dinnery, citing quotes from Burnley boss Sean Dyche who stated that Cornet has an “outside chance” to feature on Sunday at Turf Moor against West Ham after suffering a thigh problem last weekend at St.James’ Park in the 1-0 loss against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Cornet has been a revelation for this season at Burnley, with the Ivorian forward bagging five of the club’s 14-goals in the Premier League this season while no other Clarets player other than Chris Wood scoring more than twice this term.

Burnley in desperate need of three points

Despite the capture of Cornet in the summer, the usual issues at Burnley persisted this season after the club hardly did enough to propel itself further up the table.

Currently level on 10-points with both Newcastle and Norwich while sitting in the bottom three, the struggle for Burnley moving forward will be how will the club be able to keep up with the expected business coming from the Magpies in January that should be enough to push them outside of the drop zone.

Watford has been in poor form of late, so an avenue out of the top could be to simply outpace the Hornets (who have lost five of their last six in the Premier League), but while Burnley went on a credible undefeated run recently, only one of those matches yielded a win while speaking to the frustration the club still maintains in front of goal.

If three-point hauls are to become more common place at Turf Moor, goals need to become more of a commodity under Sean Dyche. And soon.
