Brighton star arrested amidst sexual assault claim in seafront nightclub
Sexual assault rampant in the Premier League
Sexual assault, or perhaps the reporting of sexual assault, is sickeningly seemingly on the up this year, with three players now accused since the beginning of the season.
Benjamin Mendy, of course, is the most high-profile of these, due to stand trial in January for four counts of rape and one count of sexual assualt.
Statement from Cheshire police
“Benjamin Mendy, aged 27, has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 & are alleged to have taken place between Oct 2020 & Aug 2021.”https://t.co/3GLVndSOOe— Sam Lee (@SamLee) August 26, 2021
Meanwhile, Everton were forced to suspend one of their squad, a man in his 30s, due to child sex offences, with a statement on their club website saying:
Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation. The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.
Sadly, this was not the last.
