Borussia Dortmund “target” Chelsea forward as potential Erling Haaland replacement
Haaland set to depart this summer
It is widely expected that Erling Haaland will depart Borussia Dortmund this summer, with the Norwegian marksman having made a massive impression at Borussia Dortmund during the 18 months he has been at the club, and maturing into one of the most clinical finishers in world football.
However, he has a supposed release clause written into his contract that becomes active in the summer of 2022, set at the bargain price of 68 million pounds, as per the Daily Mail.
Given his goalscoring record, there will be a whole host of clubs queuing up for his signature, including the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona (should they sort their financial troubles).

One thing is for certain: whoever Haaland chooses to join will be getting a stone-cold killer with a decade of top-level football ahead of him, for a snip in today’s transfer market.
Dortmund plan replacements
Given the nature of the situation, it is understandable that Borussia Dortmund are already looking at potential replacements for their star man should he leave in 2022. As per a report in SportsBild (via the Daily Mail), one of those being sought is none other than Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

Werner has had a difficult time at Stamford Bridge since a big-money move in the summer of 2020, returning just 6 league goals last campaign. With Lukaku’s addition this summer, the German has fallen down the pecking order even further, starting just one of the opening four games and none since Romelu Lukaku joined the club.
It would be a move that goes against Borussia Dortmund’s general philosophy of signing highly-rated youngsters, but it could prove a masterstroke if Werner could rediscover his Bundesliga form in black and yellow.
