Dortmund monitoring Bellingham part two

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are rumored to be hot on the trail of 16-year-old Birmingham winger Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Die Schwarzgelben and England starlet Jude Bellingham.

As per the Mirror, Jobe – who has yet to make a senior appearance for the the Blues under Lee Bowyer – has drawn the gaze of the Westfalenstadion outfit after the club was successful in prizing his younger brother from St. Andrew’s to the Ruhr valley with immense success.

Jobe Bellingham has been called up to the match day squad by Bowyer for Carabao Cup clashes against Colchester and Fulham, and it appears clear that he is set to follow in his older brother’s footsteps as he nears a chance of breaking into the first-team despite his tender age.

Dortmund head of youth Lars Ricken commented on the Bellingham situation, providing some clarity and hinting at a long-term approach for the player regarding any interest;

“We got to know Jobe when we signed his brother. But he’s 16. And 16-year-olds have a right for anonymity, so we won’t be talking about him here.”

The right footsteps to follow

There are few better pathways to follow for Jobe Bellingham than his big brother Jude, after the Birmingham midfielder left England’s second city to make his mark at Borussia Dortmund.

Still, no one expected Jude to have the massive and immediate impact he had at the Westfalenstadion, and he now is undoubtedly considered to be one of the key pieces of the puzzle under new boss Marco Rose as Dortmund look to push Bayern Munich once again in the Bundesliga.

Jude was well-capable of making the jump from Birmingham academy graduate to Dortmund starlet, and though that does not guarantee Jobe will be able to follow a similar development timetable with identical success, the fact that the club have tracked him for a number of years shows that they may be able to put faith in the same process that aided in Jude’s rapid rise for both club and country.

Truthfully, there are few better places than Dortmund for a young player to develop, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland, Gio Reyna, and Bellingham all establishing themselves quite well in short order despite their age.

For Jobe Bellingham, this could be the chance of a lifetime.
