Black Adam: Post-Credits Scene, Deceptive DC Cameo Explained as Film Lands on HBO Max

Starring Dwayne Johnson in the lead role, Adam beats hero and villain after being freed from a 5,000-year imprisonment, from the opening scenes through the credits (the post-credits scene is relatively chill).

Still, it’s a spectacular big time in cinema, and what more could you want from the Rock?”

What does it mean?

It sure looked like we were going to get more of Cavill’s version of Superman, and he was almost certainly going to fight Black Adam. However, Cavill later announced that the fight had been canceled – he won’t be reprising the role after all.

Since the film’s release, parent company Warner Bros. Discovery said director James Gunn (responsible for The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, as well as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Series) and producer Peter Safran, lead the revamped DC Studios. On Dec. 14, Cavill said he met the pair, who told him their take on the DC Cinematic Universe needed a new take on the character — Gunn later confirmed. in a tweet.

The hard restart makes sense, but Johnson is undoubtedly disappointed. He shared some of his thoughts on how the battle would play out with YouTuber Jake’s Takes in an interview ahead of the film’s release.

“I think Black Adam lands the first punch. Now I don’t know if Black Adam lands the last punch,” he said. “I can see things so clearly…what this scene looks like, what this movie looks like, what the next three movies look like. Now, whether it comes to fruition or not – it always helps, when you have that kind of clarity. “

Cavill Supes debuted in Man of Steel in 2013 and was last seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (aka the Snyder Cut) in 2021, and the ending of that movie left us in a dark and awesome future where he had been corrupted.

The director said it’s not canon, but the 2017 version of the film by Snyder Cut and Joss Whedon sees today’s uncorrupted Superman join Batman and Wonder Woman preparing to create the Justice League.

The team also showed up on the HBO Peacemaker finale earlier this year, but Superman stayed in the shadows during that appearance (he was played by Brad Abramenko). The character similarly appeared in 2019’s Shazam, where he was seen only from the neck down (and played by Ryan Handley).

Superman has therefore never been too far from our screens. The character is iconic and archetypal enough that multiple versions could exist (and likely come together in a multiverse crossover like Spider-Man: No Coming Home). Cavill will almost certainly return to the role one day, but we may never see the battle with Black Adam if it was originally planned.

What can comics tell us?

Black Adam’s long comic book history is complex due to DC variouscontinuityrestarthaving started out as a villain in 1945. He’s become more nuanced in the decades since, veering into a dark antihero who often makes uneasy alliances with heroes (mostly because he’s violent, unpredictable, and a kind moron).

It could have happened in the next movie as well – Adam and Superman would have probably had an epic battle before coming to some sort of truce. Despite his physical prowess, Superman is traditionally vulnerable to magic, meaning Adam would have had the upper hand.

Shazam may have gotten involved as well, since he and Superman are buds and Shazam’s powers come from the same source as Adam’s. Anyway, this character will appear in Shazam: Fury of the Godswhich is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
