Olamilekan Agbeleshe (born Olamilekan Agbeleshe, 1994) otherwise known as Laycon is rapper, former Big Brother Naija Lockdown edition housemate and the eventual winner of the Big Brother Naija Lockdown edition. Laycon studied Philosophy at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and ventured into music at a very tender age. He is claimed to be the best graduating student of his time at UNILAG.
Laycon, prior to being a Big Brother Naija (BBN) season 5 housemate had been plying his music craft and had featured Chinko Ekun and popular indigenous rapper, Reminisce in his single titled “Fierce”, which is available online. Laycon has other songs which include “hip-hop”, “motivation” and “who is Laycon?”, an EP.
As an undergraduate, Laycon interned at Latjum Global Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas marketing company, as a personal assistant to the CEO and managing director of the company.
After graduating from the university, he got a job at Bestman Games, Ikoyi, as a sales and business development personnel. Bestman Games is an African games company based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Laycon left Bestman Games after two months and worked at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy as a personal assistant to the Assistant Director (Welfare) of Administration and Human resources of the ministry.
The rapper has also worked as a freelance writer for several companies and organizations.
Career in music
Music has always been Laycon’s passion. He started rapping at an early age and never stopped. Even while at school and when he was working, he pursued music on the side.
One of his most famous songs is Fierce, in which he features Chinko Ekun and Reminisce. The song was on the MTV Base Top 10 charts for six months.
More interestingly, Laycon told Ebuka, the Big Brother Naija show host that he came into the Big Brother House with the intent of promoting his songs.
Laycon in BBNaija
Laycon’s stay in the Big Brother house during the show was sour and sweet at the same time, with the sour part being his entanglement with Erica, a fellow housemate who was later disqualified after she had been issued two strikes and then later bullied and body-shamed Laycon owing to love interest gone bad.
Laycon had developed feelings for Erica while in the house and the duo who were close friends initially would go on to become sworn enemies, particularly on Erica’s part who had threatened that Laycon would die and not attain a certain age. In a series of videos released, a visibly angry Erica hurled insults at Laycon while he laughed and looked on.
Erica’s act which was a clear violation of the BBNaija’s rules saw her disqualified after getting another strike.
Laycon found comfort mostly in the arms of Vee who was his best friend while on the show and then Nengi, his Saturday night forever dance partner.
All through his stay in the house, Laycon considered himself an underdog, oblivious to his power outside of his show, and always felt Dorathy was the most powerful housemate in the house.
