This story is part Technology for a better worldstories about the diverse teams that create products, apps and services to improve our lives and society.
Over the past few years, many companies have started to make great strides in producing more sustainable and environmentally friendly products. Although the tech industry still has a lot of catching up to do, eco-friendly iPhone cases are on the rise. These iPhone cases, made from recycled and/or biodegradable materials, are more than capable of protecting your phone while saving the environment.
Biodegradable cases also won’t harm the environment for years and years after you’re done using them. Some of the cases listed below are made from recycled plastic and biodegradable plant-based materials.
Eco-friendly cases may look and feel slightly different from standard thermoplastic polyurethane, or TPU, cases, especially wooden ones, but most people wouldn’t even realize you were using an eco-friendly case unless you were telling them. Many offer good drop protection, and all of the cases on this list are compatible with wireless chargers.
It should also be noted that many of these cases are available for iPhone models, including iPhone 11 And iPhone XSand many of these cases are discounted.

Moment
Moment’s iPhone 12 case is thin and has a soft-touch texture. It is made from biodegradable materials, so the body is compostable after the polycarbonate parts are removed. It can be thrown in your compost bin when you are done with the product.

You know all those compact discs that you no longer listen to? Nimble makes translucent iPhone cases. They’re a bit pricey at $50, but some of us like the idea of protecting the latest tech with recycled technology and don’t mind paying a little extra for it. They have antimicrobial protection, are scratch resistant, and aren’t supposed to yellow over time. Although the drive enclosure is slim, it is rated for 6ft drop protection.

You receive price alerts for Incipio Organicore
Incipio’s Organicore cases are made with 100% compostable and biodegradable materials and also have eco-friendly packaging. The Organicore cases offer 8-foot drop protection and come in three color options: black, natural, and eucalyptus (pictured here). They look and feel similar to the Torro Eco Cover cases and it’s really a mix between the two brands. The main advantage of the Torro is that it comes in more eye-catching colors – red and blue appear – and currently costs less.
Note that Amazon is discounting some colors of the Organicore case (the natural version is $10), but the green version shown is $15. Additionally, the Organicore is available in an iPhone 12 Pro Max version, but that costs more.

Casetify recently launched its new ultra compostable crates. Compared to its previous Conscious cases, this new eco-friendly model increases drop protection to 6.6 feet and is made with Ecotify’s 100% plant-based compostable material, the proprietary blend of biopolymers, starch and grain of company bamboo.
Casetify also says the packaging is made from 100% sustainable, recycled and compostable materials, including eco-friendly, non-toxic soy-based ink. The case has a raised edge design to protect screens and is available in seven colors. The price is high at $66, but the case is customizable with personalization and prints.

It is available in multiple color options.

Lifeproof’s Wake case is made from recycled ocean plastic (85% of it anyway). It’s nicely designed but I wouldn’t say it’s super tough – it’s not bottom locked and has 6ft drop protection. It comes in four colors, including this teal variant, which I love the most. (If you’re going to get a “green” case, it might as well be green.)

KerfCase has been making handmade wooden crates for a while, and its new plywood crate is not only more durable but cheaper than some, starting at $50, with 6ft drop protection and a warranty. limited lifetime repair. I like it better than other wooden cases I’ve tried. It’s also worth noting that Apple’s MagSafe charger will stick to the back of it, and KerfCase sells matching charging stations for the Apple MagSafe charger (yes, that’s an accessory for an accessory).
